Zadora Edwards Speaks On Hair Relaxers

I have a feeling that once going natural is not a fad or the it thing to do. Alot of women will be going back to the crack.

Samantha Lynn Stewart ‎”Not I”, said Sam! I love my hair, because it’s healthy, not because it’s a trend. People are realizing that “nappy” hair can be managed without chemicals. It just takes a little patience and a glimmer of hope. There’s an accomplishment to being natural, that many of us never achieved while relaxed and that’s healthy hair. So, for some, I agree, this will be tough and they’ll decide to go back to hair relaxer! And that’s fine, because some prefer it. Then, many (fingers crossed for “many”) will decide to stick to our natural manes. Whichever way they decide to go, i just hope they stick to healthy hair! icon smile Hair Relaxer Conversation On Facebook Continued great post!

Kimbrelle Lewis I agree. Saw a girl at church Sunday who when I went natural again a couple of years ago, she commented oh, so you decided to go natural. Like I was late to the party and it was about time. Well, Sunday, she had gone back to the crack. I didn’t comment. icon smile Hair Relaxer Conversation On Facebook Continued

Samantha Lynn Stewart ‎Ysheena, your story is similar to mine. I transitioned accidentally. That wasn’t my intentions, but I end up just one day cutting all my hair off after a 5 month transition. I never surveyed ladies to see what they were rocking. I was just wanting healthy hair and hair relaxers were not encouraging growth, nor where they kind to my hair.

Jas’Zmin McCoy speak for yourself cuz i disagree. i didnt go natural to follow some “fad” i did it cuz hair relaxers was doing nothing positive for my hair and i dont like keeping negativity around me. ive always admired big kinky curly hair and when i found out i can have it for myself naturally, i jumped right on it!

Alexandra Silvestre Whether its a “fad” or not, women should be able to do what they want with their hair. I think that going natural helps out our self-esteem and lets us realize that we have naturally beautiful hair, some thing that many of us did not know. I strongly believe that you should give yourself the opportunity to rock your natural texture before you say that you don’t like it or that its unmanageable. However, once someone tries it for a while (at least two years in my book) and discovers that they prefer relaxed hair, at least you know that they “gave it a shot.” Personally, I DO NOT see myself going back to a hair relaxer anytime soon. I can’t say what will happen in ten or twenty years, ’cause things change. But I have given myself the opportunity to see my hair for what it is and not for the “ugliness” I was told that I had. I love my natural hair!

MsBrooke Lynne for some women it may be just a fad and will possibly go back to the “crack.” Not everyone is cut out to deal with the time and maintenance that comes with natural hair. I can only speak for my self…now that I know better, I will NEVER GO BACK.

Shelita Williams I agree with you Zadora. I also know a few women who have already went back to Hair relaxers. I’ve heard reasons like: “natural hair was too much work” or “I could never get my curls to pop” or my favorite “my hair grows better when it’s permed”. Lol

Shelita Williams I don’t see myself ever going back but that’s just how it is: for some of us it’s a lifestyle change & for others it’s a fad.

Nekisha Smith i really hope its not a trend. nowadays there are more products, tutorials etc to support natural hair so I think it will be around for the long haul. I know if I have a daughter i’m not relaxing her hair. while it will be her decision as an adult whether or not to relax her hair hopefully natural hair will be so mainstream that Hair relaxers wont be an option
